OpenAI has introduced a new data security feature to disable ChatGPT’s chat history and prevent it from being used to train the model. At present, both functions can only be disabled at the same time. If you do not wish for your conversation to be utilized for AI development, the chat history will, unfortunately, disappear as well. The developers are currently working on a ChatGPT Business subscription which will automatically opt end-users out of model training. However, if you want to opt out immediately, you must fill out this form – click here. (The system continues to honor the previously requested opt-out status, so this setting is only to make the change easier for new users)
The settings are available on the bottom left corner of the screen; next to your UserName, click on the three dots, then choose Settings. Here you just need to go to the Data Controls tab.

If chat history is turned off, OpenAI will keep recent conversations for 30 days and only examine them if necessary to monitor abuse, then delete them permanently. Of course, these settings will not block unauthorized browser add-ons or malware on our computer from storing chat history; it only prevents ChatGPT to do so.
The number of conversations you can have in the tool will remain unlimited, even if you use this setting and block machine learning from your interactions. This applies to both Free and ChatGPT Plus subscriptions.
There will be a Business subscription in the coming month where we will have more control over our data and will use the ChatGPT API usage policy. Users covered by this service will not be set to train the model by default.
