The LIST separator is a character that separates the MS Excel function arguments from each other.
In most cases, this character is a (,) coma or (;) semicolon, which depends (as default) on the language settings of your Windows. For example, if US (English) is selected, then the system uses the (,) comma, but if you use some other language settings like Italian, then the separator defaults for the (;) semicolon.

When a wrong separator appears in the formula, you will get an error message like this.

As the system considers this problem as a general syntax error in the formula, so there is no direct reference to the wrong separator usage in the error message.
Where can I change the LIST Separator setting?
Although I strongly recommend leaving these settings according to the Windows language, but if you still want to change it, then:
- Go to the Windows Start Menu and start typing “Control Panel“, then open it.
- When you are in the Control Panel, open the “Change date, time, or number formats“, then choose “Additional settings“.
- Find the List separator section, and change the default character to anything you like to use.
